The God Creating Happiness Principle

Creating Happiness Begins Inside

God, the Creator, the Origin, the power source of the universe (or whatever you want to call it) is invisible. Energy begins as invisible, your mind is invisible, love is invisible. We see the results of these things = light & life, thoughts that create things and emotions that influence our actions. Nevertheless, the cause is invisible. All that we see in the world that we live in is a projection, a development, a creation of that invisible beginning point.

Current trends in quantum physics have broadened our understanding. Apparently, the universe is made of more empty space than matter. What’s going on in all that empty space? It’s a little hard to wrap our brains around this invisible thing, since we are so used to just believing in what we can see, smell, taste, touch or hear. The really advanced people are the ones who believe in their dreams, but we won’t get into that right now.

The Bible tells us that we are created in the “image” of God (the invisible one), and that when God finished the work of creating everything it was all “good”. Scripture from other faith traditions basically confirm the same or something similar.  It was all good and God was happy! It was good because God is good, and God was happy because creating stuff is fun and because finally, when it was all done, God had children to love. If we know anything about love, it’s a relationship that keeps on giving and receiving, and it makes people happy.

Why aren’t we invisible?

invisibility cloakI wouldn’t mind having Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak, it would come in handy at times and give me a great advantage in certain situations. However, that would only be true in this world where everything is visible. The invisible world is the world of thought and emotion where whatever is in your mind and heart is as plain as day. There’s no invisibility cloak for the invisible world – your internal reality is who you are.

But, if we were made in the “image” of God, why are we not just invisible? If we have a visible part, an earthly body, then wouldn’t that mean that God does too? The Divine Principle (DP) explains that God has dual characteristics of internal (thought, emotion, will) and external (form). That form is expressed in the DP as Universal Prime Energy and it is the origin of all energies and forces that allow all things to exist. As we are all made of energy, everything is made of energy, one could say that everything in this visible world is a part, or an extension of God’s body.

We are both visible and invisible at the same time. Having a mind which no one else can see, and a body that everyone does see. Does anyone doubt that humans are not just a lot of mindless bodies walking around? (Some other time we can debate this point). We know that our bodies need a mind to function, but why does our mind need a body? Why did the visible world come to exist?

In The Beginning…

“the word was God and the word was with God…” don’t you just love quotes like that; too esoteric to figure out? Let’s say “the word” means truth. So this would mean God is truth and contained all truth from the beginning. Part of that truth from the beginning was the need and the ability to create, to expand, to express, to self-perpetuate. But the very act of creating is a process, it takes time and involves growth, discovery, trial and error.

seedlings growing Am I saying that God grows? Go ahead and call me a heretic, it won’t change my mind. Everything in the universe grows and evolves; the nature of love itself is growth. So the principle of growth must be an inherent part of the cause. Basically what I’m saying is that the purpose of the visible, physical world is growth – the growth of our internal spiritual selves which is ultimately linked to God.

Who do you want to be?

“Do you not know that you are Gods, and that the spirit of God dwells in you?” Another one of those mystical (paraphrased) quotes, translated in various ways. If we decide to acknowledge our origin as being our Heavenly Parent, and that human beings are created as “sons and daughters” of God, then our purpose is to grow in love and to perpetuate love for all of eternity. As love begins in the “invisible” with God and became a visible expression that goes through a growth process, so it is with us.

crying newbornBabies are cute little helpless bundles of need that we can’t help but love. Crazy isn’t it? They cry, we exhaust ourselves trying to help them, and the cycle of growth, learning and loving begins. As the body grows, our mental and emotional capacity also expands. What is this invisible part of ourselves we call the spiritual self?

If we say God is love, and God is a spiritual (invisible) being, then our own spiritual side is our capacity to love as God Loves. The newborn’s capacity to love is all potential, like a seed needing lots of water, sunlight and good soil to grow. However, the difference between a plants growth and human growth is that somewhere along the way we gradually begin to take responsibility for who we will become. As a matter of fact, throughout our entire life we constantly make choices that determine our character and influence our spiritual growth for better or worse.

Do we ignore our spiritual side, pretend it doesn’t exist, or only pay it lip service?

Lasting happiness is a by product of the oneness of our internal character and external form centered on our greatest potential for “good”. When the mind and body feel no separation in purpose and actively pursue a life of love and goodness, we can totally enjoy ourselves. Everyday becomes an exciting opportunity to create, to explore, to learn, to love and to appreciate the miracle of life.

It’s an invisible decision. It’s a choice. At any moment we can decide to recreate ourselves from the inside out. Who do you want to be?
